FAQs
TIACS stands for This Is A Conversation Starter. It’s a free and confidential chat, text, and callback service, providing early-intervention mental health support to Australians. Pilot is a regular supporter of TIACS, and our funding helps staff the TIACS team with qualified counsellors to support Pilot patients.
All calls begin with a short recorded message that explains the TIACS confidentiality policy. If it’s your first session, your counsellor will spend a bit of time just getting to know you. They’ll ask about how you’ve been doing and a bit about your situation, while letting you know how they can best support you.
Anything at all. TIACS counsellors commonly respond to calls around relationship troubles, familial issues, grief and loss, addiction, depression and loneliness, but all psychologists are trained to help you through any situation that’s causing you concern. Not sure what to talk about? That’s okay too. TIACS counsellors will ask you some questions and guide the conversation.
Absolutely. TIACS operates with strict confidentiality, and your name or other personal details will never be shared, unless you or a loved one is in danger. If necessary, our counsellors may contact authorities to assist.
Pilot believes in a comprehensive approach to mental health. We know this looks different for everyone, but a solid mental health plan can include regular counselling, mindfulness tools, support groups and medication.
We don’t currently offer medication or one-on-one counselling with Pilot psychologists, but the team over at TIACS will be more than happy to help you create a plan for whatever you’re dealing with. Give them a call on 0488 846 988 for a confidential chat to discuss your options.
